Frigidaire Dishwasher Won’t Start? Check These 5 Things.

Arthur T.

A dishwasher that won’t start doesn’t always mean a professional repair is in order. Sometimes, a DIY fix or simple adjustment can quickly solve the problem. Why is my Frigidaire dishwasher not starting? Check its water supply to make sure it’s properly connected and turned on. Here’s how to assess the 5 most common causes when your Frigidaire dishwasher won’t start.

Troubleshooting When Your Frigidaire Dishwasher Won’t Start

Power problems, incorrect settings, and part failures are just some of the likely reasons a Frigidaire dishwasher won’t start. Determine the exact cause with the following troubleshooting tips.

1. Dishwasher Is Not Getting Power

Frigidaire dishwasher troubleshooting should begin with a power assessment. The dishwasher won’t start or perform any function if it isn’t receiving adequate electricity.

Here’s how to assess the dishwasher’s power sources :

  • Check the power cord : Make sure it’s completely plugged in to a functioning outlet
  • Make sure the power is on : Most dishwashers are connected to a kitchen switch that must be on for it to receive power. Check nearby switches to make sure they’re in the on position, keeping in mind that some are located under the sink.
  • Look for tripped breakers : Check your home’s circuit breaker box for tripped breakers, resetting them if necessary.

2. Double-Check Dishwasher Settings

The dishwasher’s control panel specifies what settings are selected through illuminated buttons or display codes. Always check your control panel settings before starting the dishwasher to make sure they’re correct and enabling an immediate start.

A Frigidaire dishwasher won’t start if these settings are displayed:

  • Cycle isn’t selected : A wash cycle must be selected before pressing the Start button.
  • Display codes : These codes indicate when a specific feature is activated. If a time is displayed on the control panel, Delay Start may be activated. This function delays the start of a wash cycle to a preselected later time. To cancel Delay Start, press and hold the Start button for several seconds and close the door. If “loc” is displayed on the control panel, the Child Lock function is on. This feature locks all control panel functions to prevent an accidental start. Press and hold the Delay Start button until “loc” disappears from the control panel.
  • Control panel is damaged : Is your Frigidaire dishwasher Start button not working? The control panel may be damaged. If other buttons are not illuminating and the dishwasher has sufficient power, the control panel may require professional replacement.

3. Dishwasher Not Getting Water

In addition to electricity, the dishwasher also requires consistent water access to start and operate properly. If your Frigidaire dishwasher is not working as it should, check its connection to your home water supply to make sure it’s properly connected and turned on.

If the water supply connections are secure, check the water inlet valve behind the dishwasher’s front kick plate. This valve opens and closes to supply the dishwasher with water but malfunctions can halt water flow and an immediate start. If the valve is damaged or shows no continuity with multimeter testing, it must be replaced.

4. Dishwasher Door Latch Not Working

As a safety precaution, a Frigidaire dishwasher won’t start if the door isn’t properly closed and latched. When the door is completely closed, it engages the door latch, which secures the door. The latch also electronically signals the door switch that a wash cycle can begin.

Check the door latch for damage and test it for continuity with a multimeter. If it appears broken or has no continuity, it may require professional replacement.

5. Dishwasher Component Failure

If these troubleshooting tips don’t solve the problem, it’s possible a failed component is preventing the dishwasher from starting.

The following part failures should be addressed by a professional dishwasher repair service :

  • Door switch : Prevents the dishwasher from starting if the door isn’t properly closed. If the switch is faulty, it won’t signal the main control board to begin a wash cycle even if the door is closed properly.
  • Thermal fuse : If the dishwasher is in danger of overheating, the thermal fuse blows to cut off power. Before the thermal fuse is replaced, the dishwasher should be assessed to determine why it’s overheating.
  • Main control board : Provides power to all dishwasher functions. If this computerized board fails, it won’t provide voltage to specific functions when needed.
